SRINAGAR: During the year 2022, Indian troops committed unabated acts of state terrorism in the illegally occupied region of Jammu and Kashmir, killing 214 innocent Kashmiris, including a woman and five young boys. The Research Section of the Kashmir Media Service released a report today stating that 57 of the martyrs were killed in custody and fictitious encounters.
Altaf Ahmed Shah, the leader of the APHC who was in jail, also passed away while being illegally detained in the infamous Indian Tihar Jail. Prayers for his funeral were not accepted by the authorities. In a fictitious encounter in the town of Rajouri that year, the troops also killed two Hindu laborers.
The killings by troops, paramilitary, and police, according to the report, left 13 women widowed, 35 children orphaned, and 10 women were molested, abused, or disgraced by uniformed men throughout the year. 44 residential buildings and structures were said to have been destroyed by Indian forces.
According to the report, the use of brute force against protesters caused at least 134 injuries, and 1,350 people were arrested during house raids and crackdowns by Indian troops and police in the territory. These people included Hurriyat activists, human rights activist Muhammad Ahsan Untoo, APHC leader Molvi Bashir Ahmed, Mushtaq-ul-Islam leader Dr. Hameed Fayaz, Muhammad Shareef Sartaj, Maulana Mushtaq Veeri, The Public Safety Act (PSA) and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), both black laws, led to the arrest of many of those individuals.
In addition to prohibiting Muharram processions, Shab-e-Baraat, Shabe Qadr, and Eid Milad-un-Nabi (SAW) gatherings in the occupied territory, the Indian authorities prevented people from offering Friday prayers 14 times at the historic Jamia Masjid in Srinagar.
According to the report, leaders of the resistance, including APHC Chairman Masarrat Aalam Butt, Muhammad Yasin Malik, Shabbir Ahmed Shah, Nayeem Ahmed Khan, Aasiya Andrabi, Naheeda Nasreen, Fehmeeda Sofi, Ayaz Muhammad Akbar, Peer Saifullah, Raja Merajuddin Kalwal, Shahid-ul-Islam, Farooq Ahmed Dar, Syed Sha
The report kept up with that more than 4,000 of individuals, including Muhammad Yousuf Mir, Muhammad Yousuf Falahi, Muhammad Rafiq Ganai, Dr Muhammad Qasim Fakhtoo, Ghulam Qadir Butt, Dr Shafi Shariyatee, Showkat Hakeem, Assadullah Parrey, Merajuddin Nanda, Hayat Ahmad Butt, Feroz Ahmad Dar, Noor Muhammad Fayaz, Abdul Samad Inqilabi, columnists Asif Ruler and Fahad Shah, stayed in various correctional facilities of IIOJK and India under the dark regulations, Public Wellbeing Act (public service announcement) and Unlawful Exercises (Avoidance) Act (UAPA).
The report expressed that in the long stretch of December 2022 alone, the Indian soldiers martyred seven Kashmiris. It stated that at least 43 youth were detained during the month, and that members of the Indian military also destroyed a residential building during that time.
