The 25th Arabian Gulf Cup’s opening match between hosts Iraq and Oman ended in an anticipated draw on Friday at the Basra International Stadium in front of a large crowd.
The heads of Gulf football federations were present for the tournament’s earlier opening on Friday. Iraq is hosting the tournament for the first time since 1979, and FIFA President Gianni Infantino was there for the opening match as well.

The eight-team competition, which runs through January 19, also includes teams from the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, and Qatar. The Al-Minaa Olympic Stadium serves as the second of two venues for the entirety of the tournament, which is being held in the city of Basra.
