The United Arab Emirates marked the start of the year 2023 with record-breaking fireworks, drone shows, star-studded concerts, and mind-boggling entertainment events that nearly exhausted visitors and residents alike.
After the exhilarating experience, many families decided to relax on the first day of the year and spend quality time with loved ones and relatives, while others went out. Khaleej Times contacted a variety of expats to find out how they spent January 1.
Adilatul, a Malaysian expat, said that her visiting son surprised the family with a hearty breakfast early on in the first day. We had initially intended to go out for breakfast, but we all fell asleep late last night, so we gave up on that idea. Surprised to find that my 17-year-old son, who is home for the winter break after studying in Canada, had already made a hearty breakfast for the entire family when I went to the kitchen. She stated, “This gesture touched me so deeply.”
Adilatul Abdullah and his family Later that day, the family plans to go to Yas Park for a New Year’s Eve picnic. She stated, “We are mostly at home today, spending some good family time with my two children and husband.”
The first day of the year was spent showing her family around the city and taking advantage of the perfect weather for French national Isabelle Monet. This morning, I drove around the city and took them to the beach. The roads were so quiet, but that will change tomorrow. Therefore, I considered, “Why not venture out in peace?” She stated
Her family is making their first trip to Dubai, and they are enjoying both the city and the pleasant weather. I am looking forward to spending time with my husband, daughter, and parents. It is priceless to spend quality time with loved ones, and when the holidays are over, I will remember this time,” Isabelle continued.
Kabir Malkani and his family On New Year’s Eve, Indian expat Kabir Malkani celebrated with his friends and family at Al Qudra Lake. Dinner at a barbecue, games, and good times were had. “He said, “We started the new year on a high note.” While visiting the Gurudwara, Kabir and his family continued their celebrations. He stated, “We marked a good start to another good year.”
Because it was Ramya and Alefiya’s last New Year in the United Arab Emirates, this year’s celebration is especially meaningful to them. Alefiya stated, “This is possibly my best New Year’s celebration, which has not only helped make memories but also created a bond that will never be forgotten. It was my last chance to make this occasion even more special.”
